THUNG KHE PASS
Located 100 km away from Hanoi, Thung Khe pass is a pass with striking features: a pass next to a limestone mountain. Looking from above, it is like a white canvas. Driving through here, it is like going through a layer of mist, when the temperature drops significantly.
The limestone from the mountain used to be used to build the roads leading to this pass. For now, it remains here, maintaining a smooth layer. On this pass, there is a makeshift market where local people sell some unique types of plants and animals, notably bamboo rice.
LAC VILLAGE
Lac Village is a village right in the heart of Mai Chau valley. The village is about 700 years old, and is home to 5 Thai families: Ha, Lo, Vi, Mac, Moc.
Lac Village is an idyllic one where many houses are stilt houses, built to maintain a sense of collective living and in harmony with nature. Embracing the houses on all sides are lovely rice fields and old trees. Over time, people in Lac Village have managed to find a way to modernize while still retaining some of the key features of their architecture and cultures. Cycling around the village will help you relax, while staying in stilt house homestays will help you feel the spirit of collective living, and understand more deeply textures of Thai culture.
POM COONG VILLAGE
Pom Coong village is situated close to Lac village. This is also the home of Thai people and about 70 households. The physical terrain of Pom Coong is higher than Lac village, so it is more suitable for walking around. Changes of height bring changes of feelings and a closer look to stilt houses in Pom Coong.
MO LUONG CAVE
Mo Luong Cave is a big cave system in the heart of Pu Kha mountain, Mai Chau. The cave system has 4 smaller caves about 500 meters into the heart of the mountain. The cave has 2 main gates: 1 in Chieng Chau village, 1 in Mai Chau town. The cave is only 2 km away from Lac village, easily accessible and therefore very well visited.
