Overview

In the early 18th century, Hoi An port became less vibrant, while Da Nang port became more, especially when European shipbuilding technology progressed to a higher level. At the end of the 19th century, Da Nang turned into one of the most bustling ports in Central Vietnam. Overtime, it still retains the dynamism, while preserving cultural heritages and having a way of life that is neither too slow or fast.

To Vietnamese people, Da Nang is often called a “thành phố đáng sống”, a city worth living in. It earns that nickname perhaps thanks to the fact that it has a combination of elements: it has mountains, beaches, great cuisine, modern cafes, and heritage. A city with a life pace and working pace that is neither too slow nor too fast, and recently growing into a hub that attracts IT talents.

DA NANG BEACHES
Da Nang is an ideal land for beach lovers since it has more than 11 beautiful beaches. Some beaches have charming shores that stretch up to 4km-5km. Some notable beaches are My Khe, Non Nuoc, My An, Nam O, out of which, My Khe was nominated by Forbes as one of the most attractive beaches on the planet. Beach sports here are also much more developed than other beaches in Vietnam, and there are so many activities you can engage in, such as: scuba diving, boat racing, jet skiing, parasailing, speedboat, and surfing. The best time to enjoy surfing in Da Nang is between November and March.

MARBLES MOUNTAIN
Located 8km away from Da Nang city center, Marble Mountain is a place for people seeking both nature and spirituality. The mountain has 6 sub-mountains that rise up on a beach base of about 2km2. The mountains are named after essential elements in the I Ching system: metal, wood, water, fire, earth. Out of which, the earth mountain is perhaps the most special, since there is a beautiful cave inside. The cave was used as a shelter for Vietnamese soldiers in wars, and is currently a spiritual destination.

CHAM MUSEUM OF SCULPTURE

Initially built in the 20th century by the French School of the Far East, till now, the Cham Museum of Sculpture has a history of 100 years, and is a preservation of the quintessentials of ancient Champa culture. It was designed by two French architects, Delaval and Auclair.

Coming to the museum, you can see many artifacts of Cham culture. With a size of 6.673m2, out of which, 2.000m2 of the museum was used to show ancient artifacts, while the remaining space is used to show collections of photos and documents of Cham culture. These sculptures were gathered from Champa in central Vietnam, notably in Quang Binh and Binh Thuan.

Altogether, coming here means you can feel the rise and fall of Champa civilization, and feel the spirit of Hindu and Buddhist cultures.

MY SON SANCTUARY

Discovered in 1885, My Son Sanctuary is the remnant of a civilization that lasted for 1000 years from the 4th century to the 14th century. It was recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage in 1995. This site reflects architectural and cultural values of Hinduism, where Shiva God was honored. The site is made of brick and stone, surrounded by a jungle, and facing Eastward - where the sun rises. Even though the remaining site is only a part of what it once was, it still reflects the spirit of a bygone culture.

When you visit My Son sanctuary, it's best to visit Cham museum of Sculpture to have a more contextual understanding of Champa history and culture, before feeling the site in real life.

SON TRA PENINSULA

Located 10 km away from Da Nang city center, Son Tra archipelago is sea-facing on three sides and city-facing on the other. In the past, Son Tra archipelago used to be a floating island, and formed by 3 mountains. The site is a combination of beautiful large and small beaches, dense jungles, and curvy roads that are loved by adventurous motorcyclists.

Coming to Son Tra archipelago, you can explore the beaches, try motorcycling on the winding roads, or try to climb to the top, where you can have a panoramic view of the archipelago. The mountain top has a big statue of Lady Buddha, and a rock chess board, infusing a feeling of spirituality to a site of nature.


HAI VAN PASS

Located at the end of Truong Son Range, Hai Van pass used to be a challenge in connecting North and South Vietnam, due to its harsh topography and steep landscape. This 20 km long, 500m high pass, embraced by clouds, sea and jungles, became a symbol: first, for conquest, then later, as a point of connection.

In 1902 a railway system was built in Hai Van, officially turning Hai Van pass into a conduit between North and South vietnam. This train is a witness of many historical encounters, of explorers in their journey of seeing, of searching history patches.

SÔNG HÀN
Taking a boat along the Han river is a great way to feel the modern, vibrant pulse of this city. Along the riverside, youngsters often gather to eat, drink, chat, and date. On the river, from the vantage point of a boat, you can see tall buildings that mark the signs of Da Nang’s modernity and culture. There are 9 bridges crossing Han river, out of which, 4 became local’s favorites, and Da Nang people often refer to them as “four great beauties”. This river is also chosen as a place to organize festivals or to shoot fireworks when big events happen.

LOVE BRIDGE
Dotted with various cute red heart shapes, when it is lit up, Love bridge adds a romantic touch to the blue landscape of Da Nang, infusing into it a young-love spirit. This is the popular dating and photo spot for local couples.


BA NA HILLS

First built as a resort town in 1919 for the French, in 2007, Ba Na Hills was redesigned into a complex that has multi-functions: entertainment, spiritual retreat, photo opportunities. It is tall enough to maintain a all-year round cool climate, and it is diverse enough to satisfy various needs of various groups of travelers.

It has a theme park that, as the name suggests, satisfies various fantasies: with an area of ​​21,000m2, it has about 105 types of games. Some of them are: free-falling tower, skiver, punky mystery maze, dinosaur park, carnival games, 4D cinema, fairy forest, super speed slide, horror house, underground game, horror house.

It has a European village in Gothic style, with an area of 5 hectares, divided into 7 areas, with 32 magnificent palaces, hotel systems, restaurants, cafes, shopping areas, towns, villages, ... all modeled like a miniature picture of France.

It has Linh Ung pagoda. The pagoda was built in 2004, blending traditional Vietnamese architecture and patterns of Northern Buddhism. The pagoda stands out with a Lady Buddha statue that is about 67 meters high.

It has the Golden bridge. Aside from the Han bridge, the Golden Bridge has soon become a new symbol of Da Nang city. From afar, it looks like a gentle ribbon, embracing mountains and the sky.
